It's 2187 and Retro City is at the mercy of alien robots. Along with Billy and Jesse, the cyberpunk heroes who lead players through the game, you have to battle it out to defend the city. For help, you’ll have upscaled hoverboards, sound wave boomboxes, and lasers, among with other retro-inspired equipment. The more robots you banish, the more Jesse and Billy Wild symbols you’ll receive.

At a glance, Attack on Retro might look less like an online slot game and more like an action-adventure experience. But if you dig a little deeper, you'll find a game that has all the elements – including reels and symbols – usually found in an authentic online slot game. So what else can you expect from this new online slot?

What Makes Attack on Retro a Unique Online Slot Game?

Microgaming/Triple Edge Studio's overall objective when planning Attack on Retro was to create a character-driven and graphically rich online slot game. To that end, it employs iconic 80’s sci-fi genre references to create both intrigue and nostalgia for players, all wrapped up in a bright vaporwave colour palette that makes for a vibrant city atmosphere. The focus is not just on the visual, however. There have been huge efforts made for it to sound the part, too. Incorporating synth-wave 80’s dance music, the audio helps to build a high-energy and upbeat gaming experience.

Gameplay and Features

Your defence of the city starts by selecting your bet with the hope of matching three or more symbols on a payline to win. With a 5 x 3, 10 fixed payline formula, there is high volatility and a respectable hit rate of 29.19%. High paying symbols are a power glove, keytar and - most valuable - a hoverboard that pays out 20x your stake for five on a line. Billy and Jesse are Wild symbols that can be substituted for any other pay symbol and offer 100x your stake for five on a line.

Scatter

All wins pay left to right except for the Scatter symbol which pays irrespective of its position. Wins raked in courtesy of the Scatter get multiplied by the total bet staked and will add to payline wins. You need three Scatter symbols for payout. Also, Scatters pay in free spins and base game.

Respin

After every base spin, you can respin a reel any number of times, 1 at a time. Each respin, however, comes at a cost and only wins involving respun reels pay out. Respins are only active during the base game after the initial spin and any bet changes deactivate it - when you complete a feature, respins stop.

Hyperspin

With the Hyperspin feature, RTP rates are variable. Before engagement, you can expect a 95.58% rating which increases to 96.08% after activation. Hyperspins, like respins, have a cost attached and while there is no limit to the number of activations, reels can only be spun one at a time.

Wild

When robot symbols appear over the reels, lasers shoot randomly and direct hit turns into a Wild. In the base game, there's a maximum of 15 wilds or 3 during a respin. In free spin rounds, up to 9 can be revealed on a single reel.

Free Spins

Free spins get triggered by three or more Scatters. There are three free spin features, with each offering a different multiplier - choose 10 spins with a 1x multiplier, 5 with a 2x multiplier, or 2 with a 5x multiplier. Additionally, two Scatter symbols award you five more free spins while keeping the multiplier unchanged.
